Our Work with the Government

Working with government leaders to promote transit

Cherriots works closely with government leaders to build a stronger public transit system in the mid-Willamette Valley. Board members and Cherriots staff meet with local, state, and federal policymakers to advocate for Cherriots ridership.

On statewide issues, Cherriots stands with the Oregon Transit Association. The industry group helped build support for House Bill 2017. The landmark legislation, signed by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown in 2017, will provide stable funding for transportation providers throughout the state.

On the federal level, Cherriots partners with the American Public Transportation Association in Washington, D.C. to make its concerns known to lawmakers. APTA’s approximately 9,000 members are involved with all aspects of public transportation.

For advocacy issues specific to Cherriots, the transit agency works with CFM Strategic Communications, Inc. The research, marketing, and public relations firm has offices in Portland and Washington, D.C.
